Ouch...

So today I got my surgical wires and hooks put on, and all I have to say is OUCH!!!! :,-( Seriously. My Orthodontist continually was pushing and pulling and I really felt like my teeth were going to fall right out of my head. Thank God they didn't. Then the little "posts" were poking me, and I was bleeding, and I am not trying to scare you, but it is NOT fun. I thought it would be easy, but the wire is chunky and she popped 2 brackets off trying to shove it in. She continually apologized, yet they pain was just awful and I did shed a tear or two, which frightened her.

Here are some pics of my wires and hooks... and my bite... I am so excited to get it fixed.

In this picture I am trying to show you all the hooks in the back... WOWZER. It is like a medieval torture device... for real.

I know this is a very unflattering picture of my underbite, but that is my NATURAL bite... I hate it (I know I have established that, but I just wanted to reaffirm.)

And here is a much dreaded profile shot. :P ughhhhh...

My Ortho surgeon told me that the surgery is going to give me a lot more cheek bone and therefore my nose will appear smaller and my chin will be more proportional. :) I can hardly wait for the results. I also was asked to participate in a test with Vitamin B, and seeing if it helps gain nerve response back faster... it is a nasal spray once a week for 6 months I think... So yeah... the best part is they will pay me $275. I still haven't decided, but I am thinking I probably will.

Love, Makay

  2. I can't even imagine what you'll look like after your surgery! I think you should do the study. Vitamin B can't really harm anything, right?

  3. Hey! I'm the girl that you met at your pre-op appointment yesterday! My name is Dani and I feel your pain about those wires :( But just remember that it's definitely worth it in the end and the pain isn't as bad :D

  4. @Leah: I know. Thanks for the support... I am getting a little antsy... I have been waiting for 10 years... Almost here. haha.

@Dana: I know, I don't know either, but I am excited because I know it can only be better. :) I mean look at those videos I posted below. WOWZER crazy difference. And I am going to do the study... :) Vitamin B is safe. I researched a bit and I am pretty sure I am going to do it. I mean $275 is a lot of money and I would be helping out. It is a win-win.

@Dani: Thanks for checking out my blog! Girl you look way different! I saw a pic of you pre-surgery and I can already see a hugeeee difference. :) A good one of course. ha. Please keep checking out my blog. can I get your email? or anything? I would love to keep in contact. Or keep commenting. :) My surgery is July 8th. I am excited.

  5. Hi Makay!
I'm getting so excited for you! I know it may seem a bit stressful at first and it's a lot to take in...but stay positive :D Sorry those darn hooks hurt so much :( I'm sure things will get better with time. Take some Advil, that should help. The other thing I've used is Oragel. It helps numb the area so that I don't feel as much pain until my gums get used to the new hooks and wires. Just keep thinking of the end result and how wonderful you're going to feel!

I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers daily!

    xo, Claudia :)

  6. Getting closer now, i'm very excited for you! Hope you can get some wax on those devilish hooks in the meantime.

I was very impressed by the youtube clip you posted, that young lady was so composed before surgery - I was a quivering wreck by then!

Keep us posted on your journey :)
