Day 3...

Okay. Yesterday was pretty miserable, and today thus far is a bit better, but I have a question...

Did anyone of you ever have issues with breathing??? I feel like I can't breathe or swallow... My nose is fine, but my throat feels soooo small. I can hardly breathe. Taking medicine is nearly impossible, it burns and I choke. It is driving me crazy.

Thank you so much for the prayers. And flowers and stuff. I have gotten balloons, stuffed animals, cards, jello, flowers, all sorts of things. :) It makes my living room quite bright and festive.

I am not going to lie, my face feels like it was hit by a bus. And like there is 15 pounds of bricks on my face. I do have pain when I don't have Motrin in my system, but it is not like a piercing pain- it is just very sore...

I know I look terrible... but I promised I would blog ALL. I meant it.

I just hate that it is so hard to drink, and eat. I just want this to pass... UGH. Oh, and believe it or not, where they took out my wisdom teeth hurts the most... I can't feel the other stuff yet... it is my ears... they are popping and hurt... it will get better.

  2. To answer your question: Yes, it was pretty hard to breathe/eat. It will soon pass though! Remember the first week is the worst!

I agree with Corey too. It has made a huge difference!

    Feel better girly!

  3. Hi Makay:
Congratulations on making it to the other side. I had jaw surgery for sleep apnea nearly 10 months ago. Well remember the breathing problems you describe, and don't envy what you are going through. I had to resort to IV steroids (decadron) during my 5 day hospital stay.
The steroid medication, frequent nose irrigation (with saline nasal spray bottles), and a humidifier, helped me get through that scary and unsettling post surgery period. You might look into a nasal irrigation system (like Dr.Browner's nasal irrigation system---got mine for about $100 thru amazon (did an overnight delivery) and that helped a lot. I also know of jaw surgery patients that scheduled extra appointments with the surgeon for help with nasal irrigation
(this can be helpful because you are not supposed to blow your nose---and this makes breathing even more challenging). A friend of mine also felt better able to breathe when her surgeon switched her to loser elastics. Good luck. Take care.

  4. Oooh ouch - my sympathies! It's all the soft tissue in your throat and ears becoming inflamed after being wrenched around, are you allowed an anaesthetic spray or soluble aspirin to gargle so you can at least swallow without pain?

So hang in there and don't let it get you down, and remember that old phrase "if you're going though hell, keep going!".

  5. Yeah, I've heard that you feel like you can't breath. Just keep looking at your oxygen, because you are getting it; I think that might be comforting. I will be going through this all very soon, so hang in there my dear! Once the swelling goes down you feel 100% better!

  6. oh, and another thing you might want to prepare yourself for...My skin started peeling hardcore like I had a sunburn and then you break out really bad...have some good skincare products on hand in the next couple of weeks and hopefully that will help...I wasn't prepared for that and didn't really have good stuff so it got pretty bad. Hope you're feeling ok it'll be over soon :)

  8. Congratulations! You actually had surgery the day after I did. I was lucky enough to have quite a simple surgery (only my lower jaw was pushed back), so I've gotten off pretty easily. I did have problems breathing through my nose at first, because my nostrils would get all plugged up, and I was on the brink of panicking, but I've managed to survive :) The first day is definitely the worst, and it's been getting better every day since then.

  10. Hey Sweetie! You look great! I ask Nana every day about you. Glad to see things are getting better day by day. Always in my thoughts & prayers. I totally understand about the "not feeling like you can breath". (I panic when I have an asthma attack. It can be very scary not breathing good. Be careful & complain anytime you are having trouble!) I love you & thanks for your blog! Kiss, kiss, hug, hug to my Sweetie. Love you so much, Aunt Joy
